Cancellation guide

How to Cancel Anytime Fitness Membership

Send a written request to the home club and check the signed term, state notice, evidence, and final payment rules.

Make the home club and agreement authoritative

This guide covers an Anytime Fitness Australia membership. Your home club, the state or territory where you joined, the signed Membership Agreement, Initial Term, and Direct Debit Payment Period control the result. Clubs can offer 12- or 18-month minimum terms, so monthly payments do not automatically mean a month-to-month membership.

Use the official Membership Terms selector for the state in which you joined, and keep the signed agreement, club name, Start Date, Initial Term Expiry Date, and payment schedule. A different club, a transferred membership, or a corporate arrangement may have additional terms.

Send the cancellation to your home club

The official cancellation help article says you can sign a cancellation form at the home club or send written correspondence directly to that club. If emailing, include ID showing your full name, address, and date of birth, and write an unambiguous request to cancel. Find the club through the official Find a gym page.

You may also use Anytime Fitness's cancellation request portal. The portal sends the request to the club; the help article says the club contacts you and processes it, and the Support Office cannot cancel on the club's behalf. There is no universal account button or central email that overrides the home club.

SubsCraft tip: Photograph the signed agreement, the ID attached to the request, and evidence of the club's received date so the notice calculation can be checked later.

Calculate the term and notice

After the Initial Term, the agreement rolls weekly, fortnightly, or monthly according to the Direct Debit Payment Period and ends only after written notice to the home club. The state selector currently gives these examples:

  • South Australia: give at least 14 days before the Initial Term Expiry Date to end on that date; after expiry, the next Supply Period must start at least 14 days after notice.
  • ACT: give at least 30 days before the Initial Term Expiry Date to end on that date; after expiry, the agreement ends 14 days after notice.
  • New South Wales, Northern Territory, Victoria, Queensland, Western Australia, and Tasmania: give at least 30 days before the Initial Term Expiry Date; after expiry, the next Supply Period must start at least 30 days after notice.

The cancellation help article also says every cancellation request carries a 30-day notice fee. Because that wording and the state selector do not produce one universal date, ask the home club to apply the state terms and your signed agreement in writing. Keep paying scheduled amounts during the notice period unless the club confirms a different arrangement.

If you are still inside the minimum term, the cancellation article says an early cancellation may require a 50% payout of the remaining balance. Medical or relocation reasons may qualify for an exception only when the agreement's conditions and evidence requirements are met; ask the club what it needs before relying on an exception.

Check cooling off, freeze, and transfer alternatives

The official seven-day cooling-off article says the period starts on the Start Date in the Membership Agreement. Written cancellation during those seven days can refund joining and membership fees, but the club may retain the Fob Key Fee and charges for services or products already provided. Support Office still cannot process it for the club.

If the problem is temporary, a membership freeze is different from cancellation. Request start and end dates from the home club; up to two freezes totalling three months in a 12-month period are described, with supporting documents for extended travel, medical, or financial-hardship freezes and a possible fee. The minimum term extends by the freeze period. Moving to another club is a transfer request for the home club, not cancellation.

Confirm the cancellation with the club

Ask the home club to confirm the effective end date, notice fee or early payout, final direct debit, access end, and any remaining balance in writing. Keep the sent email or form, delivery timestamp, agreement, ID record, and medical or relocation evidence.

If the club's answer conflicts with the state terms page, ask it to identify the clause and state version being applied. Do not assume that a portal submission, a stopped payment, or a lost access fob proves that the agreement has ended.
