How to Cancel Spotify Premium
Cancel a direct Spotify plan or follow the billing partner shown in your account, then verify when Premium ends.
How to cancel Spotify Premium: the quick answer
If Spotify bills you directly, open Manage your plan, select Cancel subscription, and finish the prompts. Premium normally stays active until the next billing date, then the account changes to Spotify Free. If the page names a mobile, internet, or other partner under Payment, that company owns the cancellation instead.
Before you cancel Spotify Premium
Check the email or login method for the account, the next billing date, and whether the plan is Individual, Student, Duo, or Family. On Duo and Family, only the plan manager can cancel the whole plan. A member can remove their own account from the plan, but that does not stop the manager's recurring payment.
Download history is not the main account consequence: Spotify says playlists and saved music remain after the downgrade. Offline listening and other Premium features end when Premium does. A zero-priced free trial is the important exception because cancelling it changes the account to Free immediately and the trial cannot be reactivated.
SubsCraft tip: Save the account email, biller, and displayed switch-to-Free date in one note so a second Spotify login cannot hide an active charge.
Cancel Spotify Premium step by step
- Sign in to the Spotify account that shows the paid plan.
- Open Manage your plan.
- Select Cancel subscription.
- Continue until Spotify displays the date when Premium will switch to Free.
Uninstalling Spotify, signing out, or removing a payment card does not cancel the recurring plan. Cancelling Premium also does not close the Spotify account.
If another company bills your Spotify plan
Open Manage your plan and check Payment. If Spotify shows a partner, use the contact link displayed there and cancel with that company. Partner rules control the steps and refund requests; Spotify says it cannot refund Premium payments made through a partner.
Do not route a partner charge to Apple or Google merely because you listen on an iPhone or Android device. The named biller in the account or on the receipt is the useful evidence.
What happens after Spotify Premium cancellation
For a normal paid plan, Premium continues through the current billing period and then the account becomes Spotify Free. The account remains usable, and playlists and saved music remain, but Free listening rules apply. Spotify cancellation does not automatically refund the unused part of a paid period.
Downgrading is different from closing the Spotify account and deleting its data. Account closure is a separate permanent-data workflow and is unnecessary if the goal is only to stop Premium renewal.
Why the Spotify cancel option may be missing
- A partner owns the plan: Spotify shows that company under Payment instead of a cancellation control.
- The account already says Spotify Free: there is no Premium plan on that login. If charges continue, try every email and login method you use.
- You are a Duo or Family member: only the plan manager can end the shared plan for everyone.
- You stopped too early: return to Manage your plan and complete the final prompts.
How to confirm Spotify Premium cancellation
Return to Manage your plan and look for the date when the account will switch to Free. Save that status and any confirmation email. After the date passes, the account should show Spotify Free with no new Premium billing date. If the page already shows Free but another charge appears, match the statement merchant and amount to another account or partner before seeking support.
Frequently asked questions about cancelling Spotify Premium
Will cancelling Premium delete my playlists? No. Spotify says playlists and saved music remain when the account changes to Free.
Does cancelling a Family or Duo plan cancel every member immediately? The plan manager can cancel the shared plan, and members lose Premium from the next payment date. A member leaving does not cancel the manager's plan.
Can I get a refund just because I cancelled early? Cancellation itself is not a refund request. Direct paid plans normally run to the billing-period end, while partner payments must be discussed with that partner.
